Meet Kat
Functional Wellness Consultant
At Functional Wellness with Kat, I believe in going back to the basics approach to healing. Root cause approach means that we go beyond just treating symptoms, and work to identify the underlying causes of health issues. Let me help you achieve optimal health and wellness!
Allopathic (traditional) medicine is GREAT for urgent needs like infections, trauma, etc. However, we have used this "quick fix" approach to things like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and MORE. But this doesn't FIX the problem. Which most often start in the GUT. Which is what we EAT and how it ABSORBED. Let me help guide you to healing your body through science back research and traditional healing approach.
I work as a registered nurse with education in functional wellness, biomedicine, nutrition, and fitness. I have been through my own journey of root cause wellness after I was told "all your labs are normal" and "there is nothing wrong with you" even though my body was telling me differently.

I currently provide various educational guides to jumpstart your health, relating to nutrition, healthy habits, and some supplements. If you are more interested in this growing approach to finally healing ourselves, then SUBSCRIBE above, check out my guides or follow me on Instagram (@ask_fitnursekat) links below!
What is Functional Health?
Functional health is a root-cause approach to health. We are coming to understand the allopathic model of medicine (today's healthcare) is great for urgent and acute conditions.
However, this approach is trying to treat the overload of chronic conditions by only relieving the symptoms. However, this does not fix the problem.
For example: utilizing medication to fix depression. This does not fix what is causing the depression but just alters our hormones.
We need to ask the "why" is this happening. Often times though what is causing our depression is not the same for everyone. Inflammation in the gut can cause depression, but inflammation in the gut can cause other issues for other people.
One condition can have many causes, and one cause can have many conditions.
So...it is DIFFERENT for everyone.
Many times, when we start to dig deeper, it comes down to the GUT and our DIETS.
Today's food is often full of toxins, genetically modified, has fillers, includes sugar, and is overly processed. So, the gut is often where we start.
However, everyday stressors have overloaded our life creating unhealthy habits, stress and work our bodies are not used to. Over time, we are starting to see the actions in the result of chronic conditions: diabetes, stroke, heart attack, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions, mental health concerns and more.

Digestive Issues
Functional wellness often starts here. Leaky gut caused by poor diet and stress.
Sleep
Our sleep is more important than most realize. It balances our hormones, chemical processes and improves immunity. Regular sleep is important to overal healing.
Detoxification
Our bodies are exposed to toxins every day, from the food we eat to the air we breathe. Our body needs to detox, and can do so well on its own. However, if we aren't healthy, the process is blunted and the cycle continues. Detoxification can be complex.

Women's Health
Women's health issues are complex and multifaceted. A functional health approach can help address issues such as hormonal imbalances, PMS, and menopause and those experiencing "early menopause-like symptoms"
Weight Management
Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is about more than just diet and exercise. But also can be cause by certain gut bacteria imbalances, hormones, nutrient deficiencies and MORE.
Stress
Chronic stress has negative impact on your health and well-being. Stress is view different for everyone and not all stress is "noticed". Identify stress and optimizing daily habits and self care is important.
